Vallee Blanche - skiing

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc

Vallée Blanche - White Valley

The Vallée Blanche is an off-piste, unmarked route through high-mountain glacial terrain, requiring a level of skiing equivalent to a black run. Being supervised by a mountain guide is the best way to make the most of this exceptional itinerary. Depending on snow conditions and the state of the glacier, the Vallée Blanche can be skied from December to early May. Weekends in March and April are traditionally the busiest periods.

Program: Ascent to the Aiguille du Midi (3842m) with the cable car, where you'll gear up with the guide and start down the Aiguille du Midi ridge. You'll then be able to put on your skis and ski down the 23 km in exceptional surroundings.

At the end of the Mer de Glace, there are two options for returning to Chamonix. The traditional way is to take the new glacier gondola to the Montenvers train station and then on to Chamonix. In excellent snow conditions, you can ski down to the valley via the Chemin des Mottets. It's a 25-minute walk with a 200-meter ascent to reach the Cabane des Mottets - 1,650m - before continuing on skis.

  • Starting 15 y.o
  • Only for skiers (no snowboarder group)
  • 3 to 6 person with a guide
  • Meeting point at 8.45am at the Aiguille du midi Cable Car departure in Chamonix Mont Blanc
  • Duration : 4 to 5 hours

Ability level : The descent of the Vallée Blanche is for skiers who can control their speed and know how to ski and make turns determined by the route. The technical difficulties are comparable to those of a black run ungroomed. In case of fresh snow, the descent of the Vallée Blanche is similar to off-piste skiing in powder snow. It therefore requires adequate experience. 15 years old minimum accompanied by a parent
